Frequently Asked Questions

Am I right for therapy?

It is our belief that most people can benefit from therapy. This practice focuses on individuals 19 years old and up. If you have questions about whether you are right for therapy, please feel free to reach out via phone or email to set up a free initial consultation. This is typically about 15 minutes.

Where is your office located? Are parking and public transit options available?

Ikigai is located at 111 N. Wabash, Suite 822, Chicago, Illinois. It is conveniently located close to multiple forms of public transportation. There is valet parking in front of 111 N. Wabash, as well as nearby parking lots.

How do I make an appointment?

You may make an appointment by contacting Ikigai at (224) 372-0019 or emailing a request to nheap@ikigaipsychotherapy.com. In most cases, your call or email will be returned within two business days.

Do you take insurance?

Ikigai is an in-network provider for Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO and Blue Choice PPO.  It is important to know how much your annual deductible is and if you have a co-insurance or co-payment responsibility. Payment for this is expected at the time of service.

Ikigai is an out-of-network provider for all other insurance companies and plans. Should you be out-of-network, payment for each session will be required at the time of service at Ikigai’s out of pocket rate. Please consult with your therapist about the out of pocket rate you will be charged. You will be provided with documentation to submit to your insurance company. Reimbursement is in accordance with your insurance company’s policies.

What is your cancellation policy?

Ikigai has a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you are unable to provide a 24-hour cancellation notice, you will be charged the full out of pocket rate for the missed session (unless cancellation is due to illness or emergency). Insurance does not cover missed appointments and so this will fully be your responsibility.

Can I contact you outside of business hours?

Ikigai does not provide 24-hour coverage. If you are experiencing an emergency, please go to your nearest emergency room or call 911. For non-emergency questions or issues, please feel free to email or leave a voice mail. This will be returned at the earliest opportunity during business hours.

Will our discussions be confidential?

We take confidentiality very seriously. What we discuss will remain confidential within the limits of the law. We abide by privacy regulations set forth by HIPAA.

What’s the difference between Coaching and Therapy?

Helping people reach their goals and improve themselves can be accomplished through coaching or therapy. However, it's important to recognize that these two processes use different methods to analyze problems and find solutions. Coaching focuses on developing skills and strategies to achieve specific objectives, while therapy considers the broader context of a person's life and aims to transform their behavior, norms, attitudes, and beliefs. Coaching usually has a predefined end goal and timeline, whereas therapy addresses deeper personal issues that may require ongoing sessions. Furthermore, insurance may cover therapy costs, whereas coaching services require out-of-pocket payment.

Please contact Ikigai for further information related to our Coaching Program.

What won’t I get from a coach?

Coaches will not assess, diagnose, treat or submit bills to any insurance company.
